This program brings together works old and new inspired by oceans from around the world. The concert features works by several living composers including Becky Turro’s Thaw inspired by Acadia National Park, Nubia Jaime Donjuan’s The Last Drop of Water reflecting various bodies of water across Mexico, “Creatures Great: Blue Whale” from Alyssa Morris’s Eyes to See Them, Lips to Tell, and our newest commission Yangfan Xu’s Our World Handbook. Closing the concert is an exciting arrangement of Mendelssohn’s Die Hebrides, alongside some exciting previews of our fall season by Abraham Gomez and Maurice Ravel!

The Kalliope Reed Quintet is the first professional reed quintet in New England. Celebrating music from the Americas, our commissions have created cultural connections with composers from Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, and the United States, and our performances include national appearances and a tour to Mazatlán, Mexico. Dedicated to expanding local arts access, we perform concerts across Greater Boston and throughout New England at schools, museums, libraries, churches and other community venues. https://kalliopereedquintet.com/
