About the event

Revel in the sensational acoustics and beauty of Thacher Hall while you listen to the sounds of our 1920 Steinway piano played by the Director of Music at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Matthew Wiencke. The concert also serves to kick-off our 2024 season at Thacher Hall and raise much needed funds.

The concert is free, but please show your support for this cultural gem by donating to our operating fund. We'll be accepting cash, checks, and cards at the event. The concert will feature works by Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Chopin, and several jazz numbers too. Light refreshments included. Learn more about our featured pianist below and we hope to see you on April 28!

Matthew C. Wiencke is a pianist and organist. He has performed both as a soloist and with a wide variety of ensembles across New England and the Midwest. He served as piano accompanist for the Bel Canto Chamber Singers from 2004-2011 and Thetford Chamber Singers from 2013-2022. Highlights include performances of Bach’s B Minor Mass, Fauré’s Requiem, and motets by Poulenc. He also was music director, producer, and pianist for Wild Swan Theatre from 1995-2005; productions include Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, Our Town, and I’ll Be Loving You Always at the Boothbay Playhouse. At Williamstown Theater Festival he worked as pianist and music director, as well as assistant to Blythe Danner. Other venues as pianist/organist include Northern Stage, Moonlighters Swing Band, and minister of music at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church.

He currently serves as director of music at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Osterville, Massachusetts. He teaches piano privately and at Steeple Street Music Academy in Mashpee, MA. He studied piano with A. DeWayne Wee, voice with Anton Armstrong, and music theory and composition with Charles Forsberg at St. Olaf College; and piano with David Volkhausen (Juilliard faculty), and pianist/composer John Koch. He has also studied music counterpoint and composition with Jon Appleton, and voice and conducting with Melinda O’Neal, at Dartmouth College.

Parking Note:  There is no parking at Thacher Hall. Parking is available just across Route 6A from Thacher Hall around the Common, as well as at the Post Office. Overflow parking is also available at the Chapter House Inn parking lot (west side). Crossing attendants will be available to assist with crossing Route 6A at the designated crosswalk in front of Thacher Hall. Accessibility Note:  Thacher Hall is a historic building and is not accessible via wheelchair - a short flight of stairs is required for entrance into the Hall and the restrooms are located on the lower level (accessed via stairs).
