What’s it like to photograph the Kennedys? Join Cape Cod Times photojournalist Steve Heaslip and JFK Hyannis Museum Director Wendy Northcross at Thacher Hall in Yarmouth Port as they discuss capturing multiple generations of Kennedys on Cape Cod. Steve will share photos and stories from decades of capturing one of America’s most famous families.
Steve Heaslip was born and raised in Canisteo,NY. He started photography in high school working on the yearbook. After graduation in 1976 he attended Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester NY where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1980. His first newspaper job was in the summer of 1980 for a small daily, The Hornell Evening Tribune. Moving to Cape Cod in he all of 1981 he freelanced as a photojournalist for the Boston Globe, Associated Press and the Cape Cod Times. Steve joined the staff of the Times in 1986 and was named their chief photographer in 1994. His work has appeared in Time, Newsweek, Life, National Geographic and Yankee magazine. He has won awards in the New England Press Association, including Photographer of the Year in 2001 and 2005, New England Associated Press News Editors Association Awards and the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photography Award in Pictorial Photography. He was named the New England Society of News Editors Master Photographer awarded in 2016. Steve lives in Barnstable Village with his wife Holly, daughter Kate and son Scott.

Parking Note: There is no parking at Thacher Hall. Parking is available just across Route 6A from Thacher Hall around the Common, as well as at the Post Office and Chapter House Inn. Crossing attendants will be available to assist with crossing Route 6A at the designated crosswalk in front of Thacher Hall. If you need accessible parking information, please email events@thacherhall.org.
Accessibility Note: Thacher Hall is a historic building and is not accessible via wheelchair - a short flight of stairs is required for entrance into the Hall and the restrooms are located on the lower level (accessed via stairs).
