Le tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel

Música de México y Memorias, features an exciting program of contrasting works by living Mexican composers Nubia Jaime Donjuan, Arturo Marquez, and Diana Syrse, while exploring the topics of memory and remembrance. The concert also includes the world premiere of Kalliope’s most recent commission “Suite No. 1 for Reed Quintet” by award-winning Mexican composer and clarinetist Ábraham Gomez. The concert concludes with Maurice Ravel’s famous Le Tombeau de Couperin –a piece Ravel wrote in remembrance of friends who passed during WWI. This program also celebrates the birthdays of two prominent composers: Maurice Ravel’s 150th and Arturo Marquez's 75th.

The Kalliope Reed Quintet is the first professional reed quintet in New England. Celebrating music from the Americas, our commissions have created cultural connections with composers from Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, and the United States, and our performances include national appearances and a tour to Mazatlán, Mexico. Dedicated to expanding local arts access, we perform concerts across Greater Boston and throughout New England at schools, museums, libraries, churches and other community venues. https://kalliopereedquintet.com/
